College campuses should be places of learning, growth, and community. Unfortunately, safety concerns can sometimes overshadow these positive experiences. By taking proactive steps, students can contribute to a safer campus environment.

Personal Safety Tips

  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Pay attention to your surroundings and trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is.

  • Travel with a Buddy: Whenever possible, avoid walking alone, especially at night.

  • Secure Your Belongings: Keep your belongings close and avoid displaying valuables openly.

  • Learn Self-Defense: Consider taking a self-defense course to build confidence and skills.

  • Utilize Campus Resources: Familiarize yourself with campus safety services, emergency phone numbers, and safe zones.


Building a Safer Community

  • Report Incidents: If you witness or experience a crime, report it to campus security or local law enforcement.

  • Get Involved: Participate in campus safety initiatives and awareness campaigns.

  • Communicate with Others: Share safety tips with your friends and roommates.

  • Create a Support System: Build strong relationships with your peers and create a supportive community.

  • Challenge Harmful Behaviors: Speak up when you see behaviors that create an unsafe environment.
